THE SMALLEST percentage of voters turned out to back a candidate in the current Mayor’s ward.
Greenlands – where Wanda King is contesting her seat – had only 28 per cent of people voting, a total of 1,800 out of an electorate of 6,333.
By contrast, 41 per cent of the electorate voted in Astwood Bank and Feckenham, where a new councillor will take over from Michael Chalk who was not selected to stand. In that ward, there were a total of 1,946 voters out of a potential 4,709.
Overall, the turnout for the Redditch Borough Council elections was 34 per cent – 18,511 casting their vote out of an electorate of 53,814, while 33 per cent voted in the Arrow Valley East county council by-election and 35 per cent cast their vote in the European election.
This compares to a 27.78 per cent turnout in the last borough elections held in 2012, possibly due to the Europeans being held on the same day.
