Pitcheroak pupils go to the polls

IT WAS power to the pupils last week at Pitcheroak School as students had a taste of local democracy when they took to the ballot boxes to elect new members to their School Council.

Last Wednesday children from the Willow Way site took part in a ‘real-life’ election, complete with polling station, polling booths and a count centre to help pupils learn about the voting process.

Pitcheroak’s Sixth Form pupils and Redditch Borough Council’s Electoral Services Team were on hand to help alongside Redditch Mayor Councillor Pattie Hill who congratulated the new councillors on their success.

“It was great to see our voters of the future seeing how important having your say is and I was delighted to talk to the new councillors about the importance of their new roles,” she added.

The school councillors will have big shoes to fill after last year’s representatives introduced a house point system at the House Launch Day, re-established the Disco club at lunchtimes and created a pupil questionnaire.
