SCHOOL children dodged, ducked and dived to raise more than £1,600 for the British Heart Foundation.

More than 200 pupils created teams to compete in Woodfield Academy’s dodge ball competition.

The tournament saw students go head-to-head and sponsor each to boost funds for the charity.

A total of just over £1,600 was initially raised with more sponsorship money due to come in.

The school is also entitled to keep 20 per cent of the money raised.

Teacher Iffy Khawaja, who started the competition, said: “I am really proud of our students.

“They have really gone that extra mile to raise as much money as they can for a very worthwhile cause.

“This is the first year we have staged this event and parents and families have been so generous and supported us.

“I am delighted to see such a positive uptake from the students to get involved.

“Dodgeball is a fun way in which students can lead a physically active lifestyle, something which the PE department aim to instill within our students.”
