Redditch residents urged to donate for refugees

Redditch Editorial 21st Aug, 2016 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

REDDITCH residents are urged to make a real difference to the lives of Calais refugees by dropping off their unwanted items at two collection points in Redditch next week (Saturday, August 27)

Everything from tents, sleeping bags, men’s T-shirts and hoodies, women’s long sleeved tops, jumpers, long dresses, leggings, new underwear, socks, and new toothbrushes are needed. Sturdy shoes, waterproofs and walking boots are also required as well as children’s jumpers, trousers, dresses, skirts, shirts, t-shirts, shoes, warm hats, new socks and pants for all ages.

Donations of long-life food items including rice, dried pulses, dried fruit, tea bags, tinned vegetables and fish are also appreciated.

Members of Bromsgrove and Redditch Welcome Refugees will be ready to accept donations between 2pm and 5pm at the Central Mosque on Jinnah Road, B98 7ER and the Bridge Church on Evesham Road, Headless Cross, B97 4JX.

Volunteer Alistair Waugh said: “We desperately need new underwear for men, woman and children and there must be loads of people with a surplus camping kettle or gas stove stashed away in the shed. Please dig deep.”

A full list of suggested items for donation is available on the Facebook page for ‘Bromsgrove and Redditch Welcome Refugees’, or at brwr.uk .
