Reminder for Redditch dog walkers on public footpaths

Redditch Editorial 21st Mar, 2016 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

REDDITCH dog-owners are urged to take care when walking their pets on public footpaths and bridleways near to farmland.

Police are offering advice following an incident in Redditch, where several dogs, who were not on lead, ran off a public footpath onto private land and spooked a herd of livestock. Sadly, one of the livestock was injured in the incident and needed to be put down.

When walking dogs on public footpaths and bridleways across farmland, owners are reminded to always stick to the path and not to let your dog veer onto private land.

During lambing season, if a pregnant ewe feels endangered, she has the ability to abort the offspring. Aside from the emotional distress and welfare of the animal, this can also have serious financial implications for farmers.

Any owner that is aware their pet is not good with other dogs, animals or people, are urged by police to avoid letting it off the lead in public areas where they could come into contact.
