Retrial over baby death

Redditch Editorial 3rd Nov, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

THE RETRIAL of a teenage mother accused of allowing the death of her baby begins today (Monday).

Jessica Wiggins, who is believed to be living in Redditch, is due to appear at Worcester Crown Court after jurors previously failed to reach a verdict on a charge of causing or allowing the death of Isabella Vallance.

The 19-year-old was cleared of child cruelty in July this year but the baby’s father, Tyler Vallance, admitted killing the 12-week-old.

It is alleged Wiggins failed to protect her daughter after she received injuries at a home in Redditch in 2012.

The pair were arrested on December 9 last year after Isabella was admitted to the Alexandra Hospital on December 7.

The baby was then transfered to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital on December 12 where she later died.

Wiggins’ trial is expected to last two weeks.
