ALCESTER residents had a taste of life in war time England as the streets were transported back to the 1940s.
Shoppers enjoyed hair styling demonstrations, dancing lessons, street stalls and clothing during Saturday’s event (May 3).
Vintage pin-up model Kitten von Mew greeted visitors and taught them how to Lindy Hop, while an SAS jeep roamed the roads.
The event was held as part of a taster day for the launch of the town’s street market on Sunday, June 8.
A hanger dance will also take place on Friday, June 6 – the 70th anniversary of D-Day – at the Grieg Centre’s sports hall which will be decorated with sandbags and bunting, and will include bands and tribute acts.
As part of the day, Alcester’s Court Leet also took to the streets to hold their annual assizes.
The tradition – a medieval Trading Standards – has taken place in the town for more than 700 years involves members checking fish, flesh, bread and leather, to ensure it is suitable to be sold.
