THE CHAIRMAN of a Redditch charity founded in memory of an heroic nurse has scaled the heights of a mountain named after her.
Simon Knighton travelled to Canada to climb Mount Edith Cavell to raise money for the Cavell Nurses’ Trust as part of their Centenary Appeal in honour of the 100th birthday of the First World War nurse.
The 64-year-old took on the challenge ahead of a large-scale sponsored climb set to take place in August next year.
He said: “I can now personally testify that the 100 people who come out to Jasper to commemorate the centenary of Edith Cavell’s death will have a tremendous experience, and I tried a number of the challenges that will be available to people of all skill and experience levels.”
