SIX Redditch youngsters are jetting off on the trip of a lifetime today (July 24).

Ellen Cockram, Natalie Willetts, Jack Drysdale, Tom Willetts, Dan Stanley and Josh Thompson will depart from Six Ways Stadium, Worcester at 5.30am before flying to Japan for the 23rd World Scout Jamboree.

“I am absolutely delighted that some of our young people have been chosen to attend,” said the Mayor of Redditch, Councillor Pattie Hill. “I hope that they have a wonderful time and make some strong friendships.”

The educational event will see 30,000 Scouts from across the globe gather in Southern Japan for 12 days in an experience which will see them learn about other cultures and take part in a number of activities.

The group will travel to Kirara-hama near Yamaguchi City for the event, following a two-night stay in Tokyo, and will visit Peace Park in the Centre of Hiroshima as part of the programme.
