REDDITCH residents will be sharing their memories of the Queen’s 1983 visit to the town at a special photographic exhibition in the town centre.
Old photographs were sent to the Redditch Local History Society ready for a grand display to mark Her Majesty’s 90th birthday on Saturday (June 11) where the bandstand will come to life for the celebrations (see main story).
Many of the pictures show former Mayor Betty Passingham leading the royal visitor through the town and residents’ delight at her visit.
Former councillor, Madge Tillsley MBE will be the ‘royal’ guest of honour on the day having served the town for several years and will share her experience of meeting the Queen to collect her title.
The free event starts at midday and will feature jazz singers and choirs as well as several activities for youngsters.
