A REDDITCH Ukip Councillor has slammed the Conservatives’ campaign and said their national policies will be their down fall ‘here on the ground’ in the town.
As the count got underway at The Abbey Stadium, Coun Paul Swansborough said it was going to be a very close call, but just one Ukip seat will make all the difference.
When the council elect the Mayor of Redditch Ukip will have the deciding vote, if they win a seat, and could therefore decide who has final vote in the result of a deadlock, Labour or Conservatives.
“Conservatives canvassing returns have been particularly bad in terms of public service cuts and that is the single largest issue here in Redditch. We want to keep services and see the maternity unit return to The Alex and a stroke unit and that is what voters will have had in their minds when making their decision.
“At the moment it is too close to tell and I don’t think anyone could really say how it will go.
“It would seem we have had great support in Winyates and Matchborough but what people tell you on their doorstep and what they actually do can be quite different.”
