LOCAL historian Philip Jarvis is arranging a vigil on Friday, July 1 at 12 noon to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of the Battle of the Somme.
The vigil will take place at the war memorial in Plymouth Road peace gardens.
The Royal British Legion will be present and the Last Post and Reveille will be played.
Everyone is welcome to come along and pay their respects to mark the start of this momentous battle.
