Village showing it has a heart

A LIFE-SAVING campaign has been set up by a group of caring Inkberrow residents.

Jess Huxley and members of the community have formed the Help a Heart drive which aims to teach people first aid skills and raise funds for defibrillators throughout the village.

The machine delivers an electric shock to the heart when someone is in cardiac arrest and restores the heart’s normal rhythm.

The group want the devices to be placed around the village including the community hall and Inkberrow First School, as well as portable one for sports teams to use.

Although the campaign is still in its early stages, the team have received backing from the British Heart Foundation, West Midlands Ambulance Service and First Responders, as well as other members of the village.

Miss Huxley said she decided to start the campaign after learning first aid.

“I thought wouldn’t it be great if I could use my knowledge and bring it to the community, making people confident and most importantly it could mean the difference between life and death.” she said.

“First Aid skills are extremely important and having defibrillators in the village will make Inkberrow a really safe place, especially because we have the school and lots of sports teams.”

As part of the campaign awareness sessions will be held on Wednesday, May 28, from 5.30pm until 7pm and from 7.30pm until 9pm at Inkberrow Sports Pavilion.

The director of WEL Medical, a defibrillator supplier, will be talking to visitors while GPs will also be offering healthy heart checks.
