Long-awaited zebra crossing set to make journeys to Redditch school safer after councillor's campaign

ROAD road safety improvement works are on the way for students and families at a Redditch school, as as a long-awaited zebra crossing is set to be installed during the Easter holidays.

Parents and teachers from Woodfield Academy have long voiced concerns about the dangers of this busy road.

The crossing will be complemented by speed bumps to slow down traffic and the relocation of a bus stop to improve visibility, ensuring a safer journey for all pedestrians.

Coun Emma Marshall, said she has worked tirelessly with the school and community to secure this project.

She said: “I want to thank the school and parents for working with me on this.

“It really shows what can be accomplished when we come together to improve road safety.”

Headteacher Neil Straw added: “This is a great introduction to the street scene outside of Woodfield Academy and demonstrates the commitment from the school and Coun Marshall to protect our pupils.

“Parents have done a wonderful job in the past few years to adhere to the mobile warning signs we put out each day, but these do not prevent or help to restrict the careless driving of some people on the Studley Road.

“The crossing and speed bumps are a welcome addition and I thank anybody involved in investing in this important decision around road safety.”

This milestone follows a road safety awareness campaign last year, where Coun Marshall partnered with the school and Reimagine Redditch to showcase student-created artwork promoting safe streets.

Coun Marshall also acknowledged cross-party support in making this vision a reality.

She said: “I would also like to thank Coun Andy Fry, who agreed to combine his ember specific Highways Funding with mine, making this project possible.”
