MP Chris Bloore showcases Redditch United FC’s anti-gambling harm partnership

REDDITCH MP Chris Bloore has thrown his support behind a campaign between Redditch United Football Club and Gordon Moody to help end gambling related harm.

In a meeting in Westminster, Mr Bloore welcomed Stephanie Peacock MP, Minister for Sport, Media, Civil Society and Youth and proudly presented her with Redditch United’s new 2024/25 season shirt.

The kit prominently features Gordon Moody’s logo in place of a traditional commercial sponsor, as part of a campaign to raise awareness of addiction support services and to highlight that help is available for those affected by gambling-related harm.

Mr Bloore said: “It was a pleasure to show Minister Stephanie Peacock Redditch United’s new shirt and discuss the incredible work being done by the club and Gordon Moody.

“This is a proud Redditch-based collaboration that uses the power of sport to deliver a life-changing message – help is out there for anyone suffering from gambling addiction.

“Football clubs can be real forces for good in their communities.

“By replacing a commercial sponsor with Gordon Moody’s logo, Redditch United are sending a powerful message and leading the way in showing how grassroots sport can play a vital role in tackling addiction and supporting public health.”

Gordon Moody operates a residential treatment centre in Redditch, offering specialist support for individuals and families impacted by gambling addiction.

Their partnership with Redditch United FC is a first-of-its-kind project which aims to reach at-risk individuals through the trusted and accessible platform of local football.

During the meeting, Mr Bloore formally invited Minister Peacock to an upcoming parliamentary event to further showcase the partnership and explore how similar schemes could be adopted by clubs across the country.

This project reflects a growing movement within football to rethink the role of gambling sponsorships and support vulnerable fans.

Redditch United FC’s leadership in promoting social good over profit offers a potential model for other clubs to follow.
