THE NEWLY elected Mayor of Redditch has come under fire for historic social media posts where she criticises black, Asian and LGBT+ communities.
Complaints have been made about Reform councillor Sue Eacock for remarks on X, including one where she suggested there were too many black performers at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee concert.
Among the most offensive comments was a post where she praised former MP Enoch Powell for his infamous Rivers of Blood speech, saying “55 years later his words have come true”.
Worcester City councillor for Warndon and Elbury Park Coun Ed Kimberley wrote a scathing article in Searchlight magazine, that quickly went viral across the county.
Since that was published Coun Eacock deleted her X account, but many screenshots are still circling online, with no sign of slowing down.
She was elected to Worcestershire County Council last year representing Redditch South and this year was elected to Redditch Borough serving Headless Cross and Oakenshaw.
Her appointment as Mayor came as the conservatives did a deal with Reform councillors, to oust the Labour administration.
As a trade of for installing Coun Matt Dormer as leader, the conservatives voted in Coun Eacock as mayor.
Her former Reform UK colleague, Coun David Taylor – now part of Worcestershire Independent Group – has called for her to resign.
He said: “Many residents know her as a hardworking councillor and a committed cabinet member within the Reform administration. But once allegations of this nature break, the end result is always the same.
“When the drums start beating, the noise only grows louder. Opinions are part of political life, but these comments go far beyond what the public expects from someone holding civic office.
“I fear this story will continue to roll on, with even more material emerging. At this point, the only route that preserves any dignity for Councillor Eacock is to step down and make a public apology.
“Time is absolutely of the essence, and the clock is ticking by the minute.”
Worcestershire county council said the Members’ Code of Conduct only applies when councillors are acting in their official capacity and Redditch Borough council said they do not comment on complaints against councillors and will not confirm whether complaints have been received.
