Redditch man charged with manslaughter

A MAN has been charged with manslaughter following a serious assault outside an Oakenshaw pub.

A 58-year-old man suffered serious head injuries outside the Duck Inn on Pheasant Lane about 1.15am on Saturday (June 20).

He was take to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in a critical condition but sadly died in the afternoon.

A post-mortem was due to take place yesterday (Sunday).




John Bennett, aged 65 and of Salford Close, was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with manslaughter.

He was released on conditional bail to appear before Redditch Magistrates’ Court on July 21 at 1pm.


West Mercia Police are still appealing for witnesses and anyone who may have been at the scene or have any information about the incident should contact DC Mackay on 101.
