Redditch Orchestra tunes up for a night at the movies

Ross Crawford 6th Nov, 2016   0

A BRILLIANT selection of film music is promised when Redditch Orchestra takes to the stage later this month under the baton of their new conductor Craig Sproston.

Soprano Sarah Longfils joins the orchestra as narrator and soloist in The Snowman while Sarah’s Dad, Graham Longfils, plays the violin solo in Schindler’s List, the well known evocative music from the film music by John Williams.

Sarah was brought up in Cofton Hackett and was taught singing by her mother, violin by her father, whilst her grandmother taught her the piano and Helen Green, Redditch Orchestra’s principal oboist, initiated her in the oboe.

She went on to study Music at A level and then carried on her studies and performing at Nottingham University whilst taking a degree in History.

In her spare time Sarah teaches violin, piano and singing – not only that but she’ll also be playing the Cor Anglais at the concert!

The popular programme for the concert includes excerpts from John Williams’ music from Schindler’s List, Aram Khachaturian’s Spartacus Suite 2, James Horner’s from Titanic and Zoltán Kodály’s Háry János Suite.

The concert is on Saturday, November 26 at 7.30pm at Woodfield Academy, Studley Road, Redditch B98 7HH and tickets are just £12 available through orchestra members or on the door.
