A Redditch business owner has reassured residents he is safe after his car burst into flames on a country lane near Redditch on Monday morning..
The dramatic incident was shared on social media after dashcam footage showed a vehicle engulfed in flames, sending thick black smoke across the road during the morning rush hour.
The driver has since been identified as Adam White, who runs local competition business Pure Prizes.
Following concern from local residents online, Mr White thanked people for their messages and confirmed he escaped unharmed.
He wrote: “Thanks for all the concerned messages/comments. Yes a few people did stop to check that I was ok but honestly there wasn’t much anyone could do until the fire brigade arrived.
“I am perfectly fine though and was well clear of the car before it got serious.”
The exact cause of the fire is not yet known.
The incident also prompted discussion online about whether motorists should stop if they come across a vehicle fire.
Fire services generally advise people not to approach a burning vehicle unless it is clearly safe to do so. Members of the public are encouraged to:
call 999 immediately, keep a safe distance from the vehicle, warn other motorists if safe, and avoid inhaling smoke.
Experts warn that vehicle fires can spread rapidly and may involve exploding tyres, fuel ignition or toxic smoke.
Motorists are also advised not to attempt to open the bonnet of a burning car, as introducing oxygen can intensify the flames.
If it is safe to stop and check on occupants from a distance, emergency services say the priority should always be ensuring people are out of the vehicle and away from danger before firefighters arrive.
The footage shared online drew widespread reaction from Redditch residents, many expressing relief that nobody was injured.
