We Three Kings of Rock and Roll, Palace Theatre
A FULL house stepped back in time for a night of brilliant rock n roll in the company of some of the greatest names in the business.
Gavin Stanley, Marc Robinson and Steve Halliday paid fitting tribute to music giants Billy Fury, Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley by reliving the glory days of the genre.
Backed by a top band – The Counterfeit Crickets – the trio, while not taking themselves too seriously, paid due homage and respect to the songs themselves.
And with the packed audience knowing every single word too, at times the Palace sounded like a choir hall.
Liverpudlian Stanley was pitch perfect as Billy Fury and drew the loudest applause of the evening for ‘Halfway to Paradise’ while Robinson provided plenty of laughs and a star turn for the drummer, at one time slapping his thighs for rhythm before moving on to play a cardboard box!
In between we were treated to a full range of Buddy Holly hits including ‘Peggy Sue’ and Paul Anka’s ‘It Doesn’t Matter Anymore’.
Halliday had all the moves of the King and kept his set to pure rock n roll, including ‘Return to Sender’, ‘Wooden Heart’ and ‘Blue Suede Shows’ to the delight of the audience.
The show closed with a searing tribute from all three to the late, great Chuck Berry.
Great fun and a thrilling evening for fans.
