POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian died after being hit by a car this morning (Tuesday, December 5).

The incident happened around 6.15am on the A441 Redditch Road, near the Hopwood House pub close to Alvechurch and involved a Jaguar X-type car.

The victim was a man in his 70s.

PC Owen Atwell said: “Investigating officers are trying to establish the circumstances leading up to the incident, and are therefore appealing for anyone who may have been within the area and seen the vehicle or pedestrian prior to the incident, to come forward

“The man was wearing blue jeans with a dark blue fleece and a black beanie hat and was carrying a white Tesco, ‘bag for life style’ carrier bag.”

The Ambulance Service had sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma doctor to the scene.

When the crews got there, an off-duty nurse was already performing CPR on the man who had sustained serious injuries in the incident.

However, unfortunately it became apparent that nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed.

Anyone with information is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident 64S of 5 December.
