STUDENTS and staff at Alcester Academy are celebrating another outstanding set of GCSE exam results.
With the reforms taking place in education, GCSEs have changed significantly.
GCSEs now involve students learning more content to a greater depth of understanding with new performance measures focusing on progress and achievement across the whole curriculum. A pass grade has also changed from to a C grade to a grade 4.
In the new measure ‘Attainment 8’ Alcester Academy achieved a score of 54 points, an improvement on last year’s 53.
Early calculations suggests the ‘Progress 8’ score has also improved on the outstanding +0.49 achieved last year. Had the five A*-C remained as a headline measure, the academy would have achieved its highest performance ever with 84 per cent.
The highest performing students were Alice Leeson, Phoebe Lawrence, Scarlett McGourlay, Benji Barley and Harriet Gwinnett.
Head teacher, Paul Hyde, said: “This year’s results also demonstrate a very strong performance in English and Maths, with 89 per cent in English and 91 per cent in Maths achieving the passing grade 4 (or above).
“This equates to an impressive 83 per cent of students achieving the benchmark pass in English and Maths combined.
“I am thrilled for the students. They’ve achieved these results through hard work and determination.
“Without doubt the new qualifications are harder and our teachers really have pulled out all of the stops to ensure the students received the very best support.”
