MEMBERS of Redditch and Bromsgrove Rock Choir made their debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last Thursday, August 23, when they took to the stage for a sold-out show at the Space Triplex venue.
The Fringe is the largest arts festival in the world, with around 4,000 shows taking place every day across the city, and Rock Choir leader Christa Hugo said they were thrilled to be part of it.
The full house was entertained with songs such as Don’t Leave Me This Way and Don’t Stop Believin’, and the audience were in full-on party mood as they cheered and got to their feet, singing and dancing along with the choir.
Different Rock Choir groups from across the UK performed every night for the duration of the festival.
“Rock Choir’s uplifting ethos of fun, friendship and community spirit is a huge part of its attraction,” said Christa.
“It helps improve people’s self-confidence, and gives them new singing skills, a dynamic new social life and a great sense of fulfilment.”
Rock Choir is the UK’s largest contemporary choir with over 28,000 members.
In its time Redditch Rock Choir has raised money and awareness for a myriad of local and national charities, including Primrose Hospice, Music Therapy Works, Alzheimer’s Society and Macmillan Cancer Support.
The choir performs regularly at local community events, such as the Bromsgrove Festival, and has performed further afield many times at venues including Wembley Stadium, the Genting Arena and Birmingham’s Symphony Hall.
They have also performed with celebrities including Toyah Wilcox, Kiki Dee, G4 and Chesney Hawkes, and last year they took part in their very own recording session at the world famous Abbey Road Studios.
