Some drivers commuting to Birmingham City Centre could face 'clean air' congestion charge

Redditch Editorial 16th Dec, 2018   0

DRIVERS travelling into Birmingham may soon have to pay a ‘clean air fee’ to get to the city centre.

It comes after Birmingham City Council published its final proposals on plans to tackle air pollution in the city.

The clean air zone is scheduled from January 2020 and will cover all routes within the A4540 Middleway with all vehicles not meeting national engine emissions standards being charged to enter.

This would be £8 per day for private cars, taxis and vans, while HGVs, coaches and buses would be charged £50 per day.
