FULL casting has been announced for Astwood Bank Operatic Society’s upcoming production of Orpheus in the Underworld at the Palace Theatre in Redditch in March.

The show is the work of renowned composer Jacques Offenbach and features the high stepping world famous dance The Can-Can.

Taking the lead role and marking a return to ABOS is Michael Ferris as Orpheus and newcomer to Redditch, Suzie Tapley as Eurydice.

Mike Faulkner takes on the role of Pluto with Ian Walton as Jupiter.

The remainder of the cast includes Eleanor Peberdy, Hayley Hemmings, Jean Chalk, Deborah Bates, Abi Cole, Kirsty Hendry, Michael Treagust, Malcolm McGillivray, Melanie Hart, Stewart Vick, Marcus Brampton and Ben Hart.

Suzie Tapley and Michael Ferris are no strangers to each other, having worked together as Yum-Yum and Nanki-Poo in The Mikado and Michaela and Don Jose in Carmen more than 25 years ago.

Both have a long string of credits with leading roles in man shows across the Midlands.

Orpheus in the Underworld is a romp of a story based loosely on mythology.

Orpheus and Eurydice are a bored, married couple who don’t really get along.

However once Jupiter and the rest of the Roman Gods get involved, things get rather interesting.

Director Steve Skinner said: “This show promises to be a colourful, entertaining and amusing production offering a modern take on the 19th Century comic operetta sung entirely in English.”

Tickets are £17/18 and are now on sale from Jean Chalk on 01527 65203.
