Singin’ in the Rain, The Harlequins, Palace Theatre
HARLEQUINS youth threatre production of Singin’ in the Rain was short and sweet and had the audience toe-tapping and chuckling throughout.
You could see the talented young cast loved being on stage too.
Josh Allwood was a fine Cosmo Brown and got his fair share of laughs and Jack Clements was a dynamic Don Lockwood.
The audience took him to their hearts and his rendition of Singin’ in the Rain was the stand-out moment of the production.
Beautifully choreographed and with striking red umbrellas, he splashed merrily through the puddles, swinging on the lamp post during the real shower sequence, really giving a standout show the wow factor.
The voice of Ellen-May Evans, who played Kathy Selden shone through too, especially on her solo All I do is Dream of You.
However the star of the show was Lauren Donaghy as Lina.
She had the audience in hysterics from the moment she walked on stage with her dulcet American tones and flamboyant personality.
When the audience wasn’t chuckling at her antics it was applauding her, leaving them wondering how she managed to keep up such an over-the-top accent for the whole show.
This is feel good theatre at its best which left everyone with Singin’ in the Rain in their heads and any storm clouds lifted from their shoulders.
The last night is tonight, Friday, June 8, and, whatever the weather, it’s well worth a watch.
