Midsummer concert brings two beautiful choral works to Redditch

TWO beautiful works are in the pipeline this month with the latest concert by Redditch Choral Society.

They’ll be performing Joseph Haydn’s Nelson Mass and Handel’s Ode on St Cecilia’s Day at St Stephen’s Church at 7.30pm on June 23.

Taking the baton will be the Society’s new and exciting music director Emily Tyrrell who has taken over from the RCS’s founder Alma Bright Clarke who sadly passed away last June.

The two works programmed have never been performed by the Society before and the ensemble has spent a busy few months in rehearsal.

Emily has been able to use her contacts to book well known professional soloists, orchestra members and orchestra leader.

Katie Leaver will sing soprano, Brett Elesmore sings tenor, Julia White contralto and Lawrence White bass.

The orchestra will be led as usual by Peter Bridle.

The Society has also been boosted by three new choir members who joined at Christmas and will be performing with the choir for the first time at the June concert.

After the concert the choir will take a summer break before returning in September when rehearsals will resume at Crabbs Cross Methodist Church 7.45 to 9.30pm on Wednesdays for their December production.

Tickets for the June concert cost £12 (concessions £10) including interval refreshments.

These can be bought from The Christian Word Bookshop at St Stephen’s Church or by phoning the ticket secretary on 07794 362956.

Accompanied children are free.
