100 Redditch residents asked to sign up to world record bid

AN urgent call has gone out for 100 people to sign up to a world record bid to plant 12,000 crocus bulbs in one hour.

The event, organised by Redditch Kingfisher Rotary Club, takes place on Sunday, October 13 from 10am to 1pm with the record attempt scheduled for 11am to midday.

It’s all happening at Arrow Valley Park and the bid is being backed by the borough’s Rubicon Leisure, Botany Bay Nurseries, local Scouts, Astwood Bank in Bloom, and the Air Cadets from 216 Squadron.

The attempt will be held under the auspices of the Guinness Book of Records but people who can help with the planting are desperately needed.

As an incentive refreshments will be available from the park’s visitor centre which will include a 10 per cent donation from Rubicon Leisure.

Purple crocuses are symbolic for the Rotarians as part of their worldwide campaign to eradicate polio, which sees those inoculated being given a purple dye mark to show they have been vaccinated.

Only those who register can take part and it’s easy to do so at tinyurl.com/RedditchGWR .
