'20 truckloads by Friday' as Oakland ramps up Ukraine aid

Redditch Editorial 9th Mar, 2022   0

A CONVOY of six trucks bound for Ukraine left Oakland International’s Redditch depot this morning loaded with essential supplies.

The lorries are all being driven by Ukrainian drivers stranded in the UK and who have been supported by Welcome Break who filled their fuel tanks.

The goods loaded range from generous industry donations of ambient food and drink, toiletries, to bedding, hygiene and medical supplies.

It’s all happened thanks to plenty of support from Oakland team members and volunteers on site assisting with the massive public support and donations coming in from all over the Midlands.

Many more loads promised.

A spokeswoman said there had been plenty of offers of support from logistics partners in warehousing, road, rail and sea transport, customs support and even free tolls in Europe for the drivers who are on humanitarian aid deliveries.

Meanwhile Oakland International continues to ramp up its operation as word spreads and they refine their logistics network around Ukrainian borders and into Ukraine itself.

As a result it is expected that by Friday 20 full trucks will have been dispatched between Oakland partners in the UK and Ireland.
