£49million project to cut traffic jams along the A38 corridor

Redditch Editorial 21st Oct, 2021   0

REGIONAL transport chiefs met have with councillors and local leaders to discuss transformative road improvements in and around Bromsgrove.

The Oakalls island where the Bromsgrove Highway meets the A38 is a major source of traffic jams for Redditch commuters, a situation expected to worsen once the giant, 2,800 home development off Foxlydiate and Webheath is built.

Billed the ‘Bromsgrove Route Enhancement Programme’ the £49million project provides a package of upgrades in addition to work already completed along the A38 corridor to improve journey times for all modes of travel.

The improvements on the A38 between the B4094 Worcester Road to the south and M5 Junction 4 to the north include:

Increasing junction capacity and signals, widening the main carriageway, new pedestrian crossing facilities, improvements to the existing footbridge and a new walking/cycling bridge.

More than 10,000 homes and 28 hectares of employment land are expected close to the A38 corridor by 2030 as part of local plans for Bromsgrove and Redditch.

Midlands Connect says congestion must be addressed to accommodate this planned future growth.
