WEST Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion recently joined borough councillors Juliet Brunner (Con, M’boro) and Tom Baker-Price (Con, Headless X and Oakenshaw) to see first hand the Community Speedwatch they called for in response to residents raising concerns about cars racing through Matchborough.

The Vehicle Activated Sign on Icknield Street Drive collated 7,000 vehicles per week exceeding the 40mph speed limit.

Mr Campion has supported the expansion of the Community Speedwatch scheme across West Mercia to enable residents and councillors to undertake checks in their community to support the work of the local police.

PCC Campion said: “I promised the communities of West Mercia that I would work with local partners to tackle the issues that mattered to them.”

Coun Brunner added: “The new community speed equipment is great and it shows drivers their speed and hopefully the message that speeding drivers aren’t welcome in our community will get through.”

Both Juliet Brunner and Tom Baker-Price are standing in Arrow Valley East in the Worcestershire County Council elections on May 4. Also standing are borough mayor Joe Baker (Labour), Peter Bridle (Ukip), David Gee (Liberal Democrat), Wanda King (Labour), Paul Swansborough (Ukip), Robert Wardell (Greens), Rylma White (Greens), Hans Windheuser (Liberal Democrat).
