A bit of Bollywood at Little India boosts the coffers of carnival funds

THE residents of Astwood Bank recently helped bring a little bit of Bollywood to the area by supporting an event organised jointly by the Astwood Bank Carnival team and local restaurant Little India.

Two themed sittings took place on Sunday, June 10, and many of the guests took the opportunity to dress up in Bollywood outfits.

As well as having fun the aim of the event was to raise funds for Astwood Bank Carnival, which in turn gets distributed among local groups.

As well as a DJ helping the party carry on, all of the guests were entertained by local magician Sam Wilson.

Not only was £200 raised for the event from the raffle but Little India also made a generous donation from the evening of £700.

Deborah Bates from Astwood Bank Carnival team said: “Organising events like this really shows what a brilliant place Astwood Bank is to live and with Little India’s support we’ve managed to raise significant funds that we can redistribute around the community. It has got everyone in the party mood, and just before Carnival day on July 14.”

Litttle India manager Sam Ahmed added: “We love supporting our local community, and the staff really look forward to this fun event.

“I’m really pleased we had so much support and now we’re looking forward to being part of the Carnival by serving food on the day on the Carnival field.”
