REDDITCH hairdresser Steve Hurley admits he’s been ‘bouncing off the walls’ after being named as Wella’s UK’s stylist of 2017.

“It’s incredible,” said Steve, who manages the Toni & Guy Franchise on Evesham Walk.

“I’m the top male hairdresser for Wella in the UK and Ireland and it means that Redditch has a national award winning salon!”

Stunned Steve had battled his way through the regional heats to clinch the Midlands title earlier this year.

Then last Tuesday he found himself competing against the best from the rest of the British Isles at The Roundhouse in London.

“We had 90 minutes to do the haircut and then the judges came in – it was really nerve wracking,” he said.

We then had to do a talk on the style and then later that night we got the results.”

Steve stuck with the ‘Urban Rock, Street Pimp’ look that got him to the finals with good friend Charlie acting as his model.

“I thought if it ain’t broke why try and fix it, but a lot of the others were trying something new. Then when the results came through it all went a bit doo-lally.”

And it’s catapulted the Toni & Guy man into instant stardom.

“I’m the first person from Toni & Guy to have won it and Toni himself rang to congratulate me, I’ve been invited down to London Fashion Week and interviews with the glossy magazines, plus whatever Wella want me to do,” added Steve, who also styles women’s hair and was commended for taking hairdressing ‘to another level’.

Anyone looking for the award-winning look will have to part with £47 but for that they get a wash, cut, blow dry and styling ‘the whole shebang’ he said.
