A memorable place to reflect in Redditch

A COMMEMORATIVE bench and plaque in memory of popular borough hairdresser have been unveiled in Winyates.

The whole community came together to produce the tribute to the much-loved Graeme Arundel, who co-owned Scissors in Winyates with his brother Michael, and the family have expressed their gratitude to all who have helped and supported them since his passing.

Michael said: “I would just to thank everyone who has helped us. It means a lot to us to have this plaque and bench in memory of Graeme.”

The 59-year-old passed away after a heart attack in 2014, just a day after the salon reached its 40 year milestone, leaving behind his wife Kay and children Chris and Beth.

Mr Arundel first opened the salon with his mother Betty in 1974, before being joined by his brother Michael three years later and the talented hairdresser went on to meet his future wife Kay there.

The plaque, complete with a quote from Terry Pratchett, can be found on the wall outside Scissors salon Winyates Way, and the bench is positioned opposite the salon so that people can sit and take a moment to reflect and remember Graeme.

Special thanks are given to the Redditch community who helped raise money for the tributes and to local businesses PSR Sheetmetal Services Ltd, Alcester-based Sho Paint, and The Mill Tackle Company.
