THE PALACE Theatre in Redditch has gained an A rating for its new sustainable policies.
Since the refurbishment of the building in 2005 the venue has been working hard towards a smarter and greener theatre and has invested into making the building as energy efficient as possible.
With the onset of the cost-of-living crisis and rocketing energy costs it is now one of the most energy efficient buildings in the borough.
Some of the energy saving projects which have been carried out include an installation of five highly efficient boilers, recycling is carried out wherever possible in the theatre and installation of water saving devices into toilet systems.
As a result of these programmes the theatre also won the GDS Award for Venue Sustainability in 2014.
A spokesperson for the theatre said: “Redditch’s Palace Theatre gained an A rating for its work to replace, control and renew energy consuming items in the building.
“Our Display Energy Certificate, from HM Government, takes pride of place in the venue which is 109 years old which makes this achievement even more amazing, and which has taken over ten years to reach – the work carried out so far is helping to make the theatre more sustainable into the future.”
