A STAGGERING £8,000 was raised in one day for charity Brake in memory of teenager Ollie Sellers who died in a car crash two years ago.

Family and friends of Ollie raised the cash on Redditch Golf Club’s Captain’s Charity Day – June 19 – one of its main fundraising events each year.

This year’s captain, Bob Silvester, a close family-friend of the Sellers family, chose road safety charity Brake.

Ollie’s dad, Paul, who dressed as ‘Zac the Zebra’ for the occasion, the official mascot of Brake, said: “A great day was had by all.

“A field of 100 players enjoyed the dry weather, great golf and appearances from me, Zak the Zebra!

“We are truly grateful for the support from Bob and everybody at Redditch Golf Club, including its supporters, players, volunteers, sponsors and everyone who donated a prize, their time and money to such a great cause.”

The £8,000 raised means the total raised for this year by the Sellers family for Brake is in the region of £12,000 – so far.

Joe Fenton, senior community fundraising officer at Brake, said: “We are extremely grateful to Ollie’s friends, family and everyone at Redditch Golf Club for going to such lengths to support Brake.

“The fantastic amount they have raised is truly inspiring and will allow us to continue our important work, supporting bereaved and injured road crash victims and campaigning for safer roads.”
