THOUSANDS of people descended upon Alcester to enjoy the 2017 Alcester Street Market last weekend.
Thanks to the free town Wifi footfall sensors, courtesy of Keep It Local Warwickshire, 4,447 adults were counted at the event on Sunday.
The crowds came out to support the ‘Superheroes v Supervillains’ themed market, organised by Alcester Court Leet, with its many stalls of local food, handcrafted items and local produce.
Music played throughout the day courtesy of Alcester Victoria Silver Band, Alcester Male Voice Choir and bands playing outside pubs.
There were prizes for the best fancy dress for children and adults and also for the best themed pub, clinched by the Cross Keys, with the Three Tuns second and the Turks Head third.
The Best Stall was won by Alcester Academy PTA with the Alcester Rotary Club second and The Dog and Partridge in third place.
The shops also dressed their windows for the day with the winning shop being named as Headway, followed in joint second place was Mustard Mash and Classic Clutter.
The High Bailiff of Alcester, Ian Whitehead, said: “I was thrilled to see so many people joining in with the theme and dressing up in fancy dress costume on the day.
“The community of Alcester were out in force to support the event which really was a roaring success.”
