THE CAPTAIN of Abbey Golf Club in Redditch has raised over £5,000 for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity thanks to support from local businesses and members of the club.
Abs Rohomon championed the charity during his captaincy after his daughter, Rachel, was born with congenital heart disease at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
The captain wanted to show his appreciation for the dedication and skill of the staff at the hospital who have given Rachel, 13, a new lease of life.

Congenital heart disease is a heart condition or defect that develops in the womb before a baby is born.
Abs helped the club raise the funds through golf days, away days, support from local business and donations from club members.
Dr Baylon Kamalarajan, Consultant Paediatrician at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust said: ”Fortunately, nowadays we can treat these conditions by picking up these issues before a child becomes unwell and, at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, we have doctors trained to scan babies’ and children’s hearts if we suspect a problem.”
Abs said: “I have been overwhelmed by the warmth and friendliness of this amazing club, the number of people who have helped me both with financial support, gifts and sponsorship and for making the process of organising fundraising days such an amazing and rewarding experience.”
Nicky Langford, Community Fundraising Officer for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity said: “We were thrilled to bits when Abs told us he’d chosen our charity for his captaincy year and were fortunate to meet his family and most of his golfing buddies at his formal handover back in April 2022.
“Support from our community is so important for our appeals and projects, we very much appreciate the support from Abs and his golf club; they raised a phenomenal amount of money, which will change lives.”
