GREEN-FINGERED members of Abbeydale Community Group came together to plant the seeds for their very own orchard.
Five apple trees were donated to the group by Thatchers Cider after community builder Donna Parry submitted an entry to a competition.
She said: “The group has been growing different veg on their small patches of land or windowsills, and we have have supported them setting up so they can expand and use the green spaces we have between to grow more fruit and veg across the community.
“We have a keen group of growers in Abbeydale and this is just the start of many more growing and planting opportunities run by the community to come.
“Big thank you to all those that joined us to plant the trees – adults and children had a wonderful time and we cant wait to watch them grow.
“Thank you also to councillors Emma Marshall and Mike Chalk for providing us with extra spades and getting stuck in too.”
The group is appealing for old planters or pallets to create herb boxes.
