African day got whole school into the rhythm

AN AFRICAN drumming and dance day was in store for the winners of a music competition.

Pupils from Astwood Bank First School were treated to the workshops from London-based Wuntanara after recording an original composition called African Sunrise.

The song was composed using a 30-piece percussion set won by the school in a previous competition, also run by My School CD.

Music co-ordinator Joe George said: “The children have loved every moment of this entire project, right from the original CD recording, through the recording of their competition-winning video to the fabulous drumming and dance day on Monday.

“There was not a single member of our school able to resist being completely immersed in the African experience, adults and children alike.

“It’s given us a real buzz and everyone has thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
