Ahoy there! Neverland comes alive in Studley

SHIVER me timbers! Aunty Jen Productions are setting sail for Neverland – and everyone is invited to join them.

Yes, the Studley-based community theatre, born at the height of lockdown, will be treading the boards again and this time they’ll be performing JM Barrie’s timeless masterpiece Peter Pan.

And being AJP, there’s sure to be plenty of songs, silly dances and much good fun for all the family to enjoy.

“We’re really looking forward to performing this wonderful story,” said actor, director and producer Jen Rigby, who last Friday could be seen manoeuvring a boat around Studley – with her jolly crew of pirates – to highlight the show.

“It caused quite a bit of hilarity – we stopped the traffic twice and drivers were laughing and cheering. One kind man even bought us some rum and coke, which was most welcome in the heat.”

As ever with Aunty Jen, it’s not only the play they’re staging but the cast will also be running a theatre workshop on Peter Pan for youngsters aged four to 14 to get involved in.

It’s this community approach that has won them backing from not only the National Lottery and the Arts Council but also local businesses and leaders.

“We’re very fortunate to be one of the Co-op’s good causes and Studley Sports and Social Club have once again been totally supportive,” said Jen.

As ever Peter Pan will be performed on the back of a truck trailer, donated by local heavy haulage company Allely’s, in the grounds of the Sport and Social Club in Eldorado Close.

Performance dates are this Saturday and Sunday, August 20-21, then Saturday, August 27 through to Bank Holiday Monday, August 29.

All performances will start at 3pm to keep it family friendly and there will be a bar and barbecue available. All the audience needs to do is bring their own chairs/blankets.

Featuring a terrific Captain Hook, a wonderful ticking crocodile and the fabulous voice of local singing sensation Billy Vale, tickets for Peter Pan are a snip at just £6 and available from https://auntyjen productions.co.uk/.
