A REDDITCH man is appealing for help from the community after his dog jumped into a river this morning and was swept away by the current.

Aj Abrar was walking his dog Bonnie this morning, when she jumped into the river at Arrow Valley Lake and got into difficulty.

He said: “I immediately jumped in to rescue her — I managed to grab hold of her with one hand while clinging to a large log with the other.

“The current was incredibly strong, and despite all my efforts, I couldn’t hold onto her 37 kg body for long.”

“I had to let go to save myself. I watched in horror as she was swept away by the powerful current.”

Aj was stranded on a log for around 15 minutes before a passer-by heard his cried and called the emergency services.

The police, ambulance, and search teams all arrived and Aj said many of them even remembered Bonnie  as she was the same dog who featured on our front page earlier this year after finding a bag of drugs in the park.

Aj is asking if anyone finds Bonnie to contact the authorities or him on Facebook by clicking here.

Aj added: “I just want to give her the proper burial she deserves.”
