Alcester care home volunteer scoops national award

AN ALCESTER care home worker has been crowned Volunteer of the Year at the Barchester Care Awards 2023.

The awards celebrate the staff who go the extra mile for the benefit of the 13,000 residents living in Barchester’s 252 care homes and private hospitals across the country.

Almost 4,000 nominations were received from homes and hospitals across the UK.

Malcolm Jackson at Cherry Trees Care Home said he was delighted with the award.

“I’m the sort of person who always likes to be busy and when the first lockdown started I was feeling very low with nothing to do.

“I offered to come to Cherry Trees and do some voluntary work looking after the gardens and it was exactly what I needed.”

As the winner for North Division, Malcolm is through to the national finals in which the overall winner is decided.

He will join winners from across the UK at a special awards event in October to celebrate their outstanding achievements and discover if they have won a national award.

General Manager, Debbie Osborne, said: “This is an amazing achievement and the whole home is supporting Malcolm.

“We are so proud of him.

“This award is so well deserved.”
