Alcester care home worker's marathon effort for charity

AN ALCESTER care worker will be donning his running shoes to raise money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation.

The Foundation supports older people and other adults living with a disability or mental health problems by helping them to connect or re-connect with others in their local communities.

Cherry Trees’ Head of Maintenance, Greg Wilk, is talking part in the Great North Run next month.

Greg has worked for Cherry Trees for over 15 years and loves his job making sure everything at the care home is in perfect working order.

A keen runner and no stranger to a sporting challenge, fitness fanatic Greg has been training hard – he has already completed two marathons with another one coming up in October and is hoping to try his hand at a Half Iron Man next year.

He said: “This is my first time doing the Great North Run and I’m really excited to take part.

“I have been running for years and I absolutely love it, I’m hoping to put it to good use by raising lots of money for the Foundation.

“I know all the staff, residents and relatives at Cherry Trees plus my family and friends are behind me and their support plus the money I’m raising will help me go the distance. ”
