Alcester community raises over £2,500 for dementia day care centre

RESIDENTS at a retirement home in Alcester have raised £2,503 in support of a dementia centre in the town.

The community held a fundraising event as part of Mayor Coun David Henderson’s ‘100 Coffee Mornings’ scheme for 2026.

Guests enjoyed quizzes, a tombola, a bring-and-buy sale and a cake stall.

The total raised included £1,503 generated by residents and supporters at McCarthy Stone development Jackson Place, alongside a £1,000 contribution from the McCarthy Stone Foundation.

Funds collected will contribute to the transformation of a two-storey property into a dedicated day facility run by dementia charity Alcester Day Care.

The charity provides specialist support for people living with dementia and other additional needs within the town.

The new space will include a flexible activity room, kitchen, quiet areas and accessible facilities, creating a welcoming environment for those who benefit from structured daytime support and social connection.

The building will also be available for wider community use, with several local groups already expressing interest.

A McCarthy Stone spokesperson said: “Community is at the heart of our developments, and it’s fantastic to see residents in Alcester coming together to support a local scheme that means so much to people in the area.

“The generosity and enthusiasm shown during the event is something everyone involved should be proud of.”
