HUNDREDS of rubber ducks will take to the River Arrow this Saturday (July 4), for the annual Alcester charity duck race.
Now in its 21st year, the event organised by Alcester Bunting and Lighting will raise much-needed funds to support the erection, maintenance, and purchase of the town’s Christmas lights and summer bunting.
The race starts at 4pm from Centenary Field off Gas House Lane, with the competitors bobbing along the Arrow to the finishing line at Oversley Bridge.
For the second year running, a corporate duck race will run alongside the main competition, giving businesses a chance to sponsor an entry for £25.
So far, 60 businesses have entered for the glory of winning a trophy and knowing they have contributed to a worthy cause.
Sponsors for the main event, on the other hand, have a chance to win £200 if their duck comes first, with £100 for second place. Third place will see the sponsor £50 better off.
Ducks will be for sale at Centenary Park on the day from 3pm at £2 each.
Last year’s event bagged more than £3,000 to keep the town looking festive.
