THE OPPORTUNITY to wander around the green plots in the centre of Alcester returns this Sunday (June 23), with the 32nd annual Garden Walkabout.

Organised by Alcester and District Friends of Cancer Research UK, the much-loved event runs from midday to 5pm and will provide members of the public with a ‘behind the scenes’ view of more than 20 of the town’s historic homes.

Visitors can take a look around the award-winning Malt Mill Lane development as well as enjoy the peaceful surrounds of the sensory garden at St Nicholas’ Church.

There will be live musical entertainment and cream teas served at the Baptist Church, along with a variety of plants for sale donated by local nurseries.

Organiser Sue Blackburn said: “We are looking forward to welcoming visitors for a good cause and the chance to see two new gardens belonging to heritage properties in the heart of town.”

More than 30 years of fundraising by Alcester and District Friends of Cancer Research UK has raised more than £80,000 and last year saw more than 800 people attend.

Tickets costing £6 (cash only) will be sold on the day from a stand in Church Street. Accompanied under-12s go free.
