Alcester gearing up for King's coronation

ALCESTER is gearing up for a right royal knees up to celebrate the coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla.

Today (Friday, May 5), at 4.30pm two benches will be unveiled on Centenary Field to mark the Coronation of King Charles III and the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

St Nicholas’ Church on Alcester High Street is inviting people to watch the live-stream of the coronation ceremony between 10am and 2pm tomorrow, Saturday, May 6.

People can design a crown, paint a picture or colour a keepsake mug.

The church will also be pealing the bells for two-and-a-half hours for King Charles.

The Alcester bells have only been pealed four times before.

Tower captain of St Nicholas Church, Katie Wheeler, will be joined by other local bellringers and the Coventry Guild President, Mike Chester.

Alcester Court Leet will hold a street party from 11am to 6pm on Alcester High Street on Sunday, May 7, which will include rides, a parade and competitions.

There will be road closures on High Street, Church Street, Henley Street and Meeting Lane.
