Alcester liqueur is named best in the world

Redditch Editorial 28th May, 2024   0

AN ELDERFLOWER liqueur which was made for an aristocratic couple’s wedding day in 2020 has been named the world’s best floral liqueur in a prestigious drinks competition.

St Maur, which was created by William and Kelsey Seymour, Earl and Countess of Yarmouth as something unique to serve their wedding guests, was given the accolade at the recent World Drinks Awards.

The global awards recognise spirit drinks and the many styles within these categories and aim to showcase the diversity of drinks in the beverage industry.

All entries were blind tasted.

It was the latest in a series of prestigious industry accolades for the drink produced in Alcester with elderflowers picked from woodlands on the Ragley estate.

William, who was at Saturday’s Alcester Food Festival, said: “The best accolade for us is the reaction people have when they try our product.

“This award is perhaps an extension of that, but with drinks experts and professionals from across the world doing the tasting.

“St Maur started out as a drink served to our guests on our wedding day, to offer them something a little different.

“Now, only a few years later, we are absolutely delighted that it has been recognised as one of the world’s best liqueurs.”
