ALCESTER marked Armed Forces Day (AFD) yesterday (June 27) with a short but poignant ceremony held at Centenary Fields in Gas House Lane.
Following a welcome to the assembled dignitaries and attendees by Alcester Royal British Legion branch chair Sue Adams, the AFD flag was raised.
This was done by Gunner Archie Roberts of the Army Reserves and Second Lieutenant Stephen Chadwick of the Army Cadets and accompanied by bagpipes played by Piper Joe Moore.

Ian Rochester plays the National Anthem
Alcester’s mayor, Coun Gill Forman, reminded everyone of the invaluable work that the British Armed Forces do all around the world to keep the country and its allies safe.
She gave thanks to all serving members, past and present for their dedicated and loyal service.
The Act of Remembrance commenced with the exhortation read by Sue Adams and the Last Post was played by Ian Rochester of Alceser Victoria Silver Band before a one-minute silence was observed.

Rev Daniel Corlett
The mayor and a representative from Alcester RBL laid a tribute each.
Prayers were said by Rev Daniel Corlett, and a poem was read by Cynthia Hill.
The service with a rendition of the National Anthem before Mrs Adams gave a closing thanks.
